About me/Availability: Adding this because I think I'm a new face to a majority of the players here—hello! I'm rusty to journal RPs, but will try to get back in the swing of comms. Most likely, I will be sporadically available during "regular" hours (7 AM - 9:30 PM Pacific), as I'm undergoing a new (to me) treatment for a chronic condition. The frequency of appointments puts me behind at work, and then I have to work late to catch up, etc., boo, hiss. But I'm very excited to be here and write with you all!

CHARACTER: Simon Peter Jung, Simon for short
CELL & ROLE: Scientist - Neuroclast
TIME IN DISLINKED: 6 months total, but only recently cleared to work aboard Mnemosyne.
MINI BIO: Veiled for most of his life, Simon was recommended for rescue by his wife Jo (apped by Olli) on the basis of his work on neural implants. Yes, technically he was one of the baddies... He has a bunch of complicated feelings (about his wife, the Architects, the Dislinked, Leonard Cohen's Book of Love, Matt Damon/Ben Affleck, natural fibers, etc.) but he's devoted to the cause for the sake of his two children, who remain Veiled.


IDEAS/LINES:
I have an easier time building lines in response to game events, plus Simon is very new, buuuuuut generally speaking I'm always down for:
• Unlikely friends: what it says on the tin
• Philosophical/ideological opponents to friends: love when people discuss differences in belief and find common ground.
• Reciprocal friends: Simon is an oldest child turned de facto patriarch through trauma; he not only enjoys taking care of other people but also feels extremely uncomfortable when people try to take care of him. I think it would be interesting to work on a line (or lines) where people learn that accepting care can be just as meaningful as providing care.

The above are just some thots! I will be hitting up ppl's intro posts shortly when I have another minute. :)

Okay, I’m back with more coherent thoughts (time zones really screwing with us rn…). I was thinking that Simon is so bad at self-defense that maybe he’s deemed a liability (this man is ripe for a double kidnapping), so he’s made to get remedial self-defense training with Ara? And it’s predictably fractious at first bc neither of them wants to be there with the other, but somehow he finds out that she lived through the Fall at around the same age as him and that realization startles him into a sense of tenderness for the children they were? And we go from there?

I think Olli’s character may be in the next round of adds, so possibly she was aware of Simon’s existence as Jo’s Veiled husband before he ever joined (Michael Bluth voice “Him?”). lol…. But anyway YAY let me know if you want me to start a log for their first lesson!! Happy to do so

You are a nerd and a man therefore Lia's interest in you is below minimal (sorry! but she is interested in your wife....)

Hi, I’m actually not sorry at all that Adri is Simon’s boss—I chose Neuroclast bc of Adri! I’m VERY excited to write the two of them against each other, I think it could be a very fun line that starts out rocky but moves in a direction of mutual respect and loyalty on Simon’s part? I’d be happy to start a log for us, if you’re interested in that!

That makes two of them interested in his wife… Actually, Simon sometimes feels like his unVeiled wife is a different person—in a very weird way I think he’d actually like Lia a lot more as a person if he knew she also had a thing for Jo. He’s kind of weird like that, but the gist of it is that he thinks Jo, whoever she is, Veiled or unveiled, is a very likable person. Anyway all this to say I think there could be a way for them to get along!

Griff! Simon will appreciate the gesture and accept—let me know if you want to do a quick scene of the two of them having beers, maybe a sort of character study thing. I am interested in them developing a more substantive connection—I’m eyeing the confidant line you threw out, but I’m happy to see where things go and where the game takes them!

Rio riio is in Supplies, so probably not much overlap just yet!

And Nim niim is a nerdy boy in Engineering, so I'm sure they'll bump into each other.

Hi, Gia, I remember you! Nice to write with you again! I love all your characters and have many thoughts:

Philip/Simon - the “if he’s not useful, he’s nothing” line in Philip’s app really resonated with me. For Simon, his inability to accept care is a function of a similar sentiment. That is, he needs to perform a role (caretaker, father, provider) and provide value to justify his presence in any given social situation. I think it could be interesting to dig into this similarity between them! Particularly if Simon initially runs afoul of Philip’s anger—maybe a difference of opinion leads Philip to think Simon crossed a line, and then we work them to better relational place. Just some thoughts!

With Rio, I was thinking maybe Simon asks her for information on his Veiled children when she’s on supply runs? Her “acts of kindness can be transactional” trait makes me think that’s a possible way for them to interact?

As for Nim and Simon, two gifted kids with drastically different life trajectories! I think it could be fun if they worked on a project together and maybe through that become friends? I’ll be on the lookout for such opportunities in game if that interests you! Also just want to say I love Austin Butler…

Simon is very new, obviously, and Ishaan is the head of recruitment who helps to get new Dislinked members settled in. He's definitely been hovering around Simon, his wife, and all the other fresh arrivals to make sure they're adjusting well. Which... almost none of them are, but that's to be expected lol

Hi, Meggie! Loving the PB for Ishaan!

Yes—although Simon’s wife Jo joined ~1.5 years ago, so she is slightly less new than Simon. I’ll be on the lookout for interesting opportunities in game for Simon and Ishaan to have some face-to-face and for Ishaan to flex his job title and maybe for them to discuss the differences between their respective experiences as growing up Veiled and unVeiled in pres cities! And very excited to see Ishaan do his thing in game!

That just means he needs to ask Simon's wife for advice when Simon is being........ himself. But yeah, I agree, they will have some interesting discussions about their experiences. He'll be keeping an eye on Simon.

evan could be an unlikely friend! he was veiled for a long time and has a lot of complicated feelings about it too, maybe simon is one of the people he lets the walls come down with a little sometimes

hi sam! it's nice to meet you! :) i'm rae and i'm sorry this is so late! i have niko (dreamscape), lola (information), and fox (battlest pilot).

i think fox and niko are most likely to interact with him -- fox is a fresher recruit and is very friendly, and niko is in the same cell! he is perhaps obviously a Lot, but he does lock in for his job and take it very seriously. he will also be friendly! i don't know that i have any obvious ideas beyond that, but i'm open to anything that speaks to you!
